Your First Visit
Prior to your first visit, we will have sent you a comprehensive intake form to fill out online. It is very detailed so we want to give you enough time to answer all the questions. The Comprehensive Intake Form asks questions about your current state of health, past illnesses, and family history. These questions are important because the holistic approach of Acupuncture and Functional medicine takes everything into account. Your current symptoms may not seem related to past health issues, but our bodies are complex landscapes and everything that happens to them leaves its mark.
Once you arrive and after reviewing your intake form, we will perform a detailed, focused examination and then discuss your condition. Your initial consultation/exam is approximately 30-60 minutes long.
When possible, we will provide you with a treatment on your first day. The acupuncture points chosen will depend on your condition, but you can expect approximately 20 needles. Once the needles are inserted, you will lie comfortably with the needles in place. Many people find acupuncture treatment deeply relaxing, and it is not uncommon for patients to fall asleep during this time. The treatment can last anywhere from 30-90 minutes.
We will then discuss your treatment plan, which may include (additional) laboratory testing, nutritional supplementation, or any necessary referrals.
Follow-up Visits
We will schedule your acupuncture follow-up visits according to your treatment plan and condition. Follow-up visits are 30 - 90 minutes in length and may include additional modalities such as Gua sha, cupping, Kyojung (Korean manipulation) or massage.
Getting the most out of treatments
For the best treatment results, keep a few things in mind:
- Please show up on time
- Don't eat a large meal right before a visit (but don't go without eating for the day either).
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing (however, we do provide gowns)
- Be sure to discuss any questions or concerns you may have with the doctor
- Refrain from overexertion, drugs or alcohol for at least 6 hours after treatment
- Follow your treatment plan between visits
- KEEP ALL OF YOUR APPOINTMENTS, as each visit builds upon the previous one
Your role in the healing process
Your actions are a key component of your treatment plan. Focusing on your health and committing to a health lifestyle are the best steps you can take for your well-being. Together, we can heal your imbalances and help you achieve harmony, balance, and optimal wellness.
Even after your symptoms have resolved, acupuncture can assist you in maintaining your health, and possibly prevent future imbalances and illnesses. The more you incorporate acupuncture and functional medicine into your life, the more you'll learn to nurture your body, mind and spirit.
